Tiger Army is about to return to the Ventura Theater on March 29th as part of our Spring Forward 2013 shows. Not only is it our first time back in Ventura (where we’ve had many great shows over the years) since 2007, it’s also a very special date – March 29th was Tiger Army’s first show seventeen years ago in 1996, when we opened for our friends AFI at 924 Gilman in Berkeley, CA.
As such, I decided to think back to some of the stuff that I was really digging around the time of that show. The first album was still three years away and touring the States, let alone the world, seemed like an impossible dream. Some of this music was the rockabilly and punk that I’ve never stopped listening to, some of it the psychobilly I’d become immersed in on a trip to Europe the previous year – I was also beginning to explore some of the hillbilly roots of rockabilly and psychobilly that would lead me to write songs like “Outlaw Heart” and of course my solo material many years later.
Whether you can join us for the show in Ventura or not, I hope you’ll enjoy these songs as much as I have over the years.
